The Swedish public transport sector has defined two major targets, i.e., to run 90% of the total vehicle kilometers of the fleet on non-fossil fuels and double the volume of travel via public transport by 2020, increasing the share of public transport in relation to the total personal transport in the country . The f3 report Fuel options for public bus fleets in Sweden highlights the challenges and solutions encountered, particularly when it comes to the adoption of renewable fuels in the regional bus fleets. As a result of the efforts...

The f3 project The method’s influence on climate impact assessment has discovered important differences in results when calculating carbon footprint depending on the method used for lifecycle analysis (LCA). While presenting preliminary results from the project during an open seminar, the project members also sought input and advice from the audience, representing both industry and academy.

The project team has carried out LCAs of five...

Establishing an advanced European bioeconomy is an important step in achieving the transition towards sustainable development and away from fossil fuels. The bioeconomy can be defined as an economy based on the sustainable production and conversion of renewable biomass into a range of bio-based products, chemicals, and energy. Several strategies have been produced in Europe from different perspectives that outline visions, intentions, and recommendations for the transition to a bioeconomy

As part...

In its role as Swedish advocacy platform, f3 took part in the info day on the Horizon 2020 Work programme 2016-2017 ‘Secure, Clean and Efficient Energy’ in Brussels on September 14-15. In the biofuel sector four clearly relevant calls are present (LCE 08, 19, 20 & 22), but there are a number of other calls that might also be of relevance for actors in the biofuel sector. In addition to a presentation of the call contents, useful information on writing applications, on the importance of a carefully prepared...

Renewable energy use in the transportation sector will consist of a combination of renewable electricity and biofuels. Hence, biofuels can be expected to play an increasingly important role in the future energy supply for transportation. The potential for sustainable biofuels, based on available feedstock, can increase substantially compared to today, both in Sweden and globally, but is still limited compared to the amount of fossil gasoline and diesel currently used. Availability of sustainable biomass feedstock will therefore be crucial for a sustainable transportation sector.

This conclude Ingrid Nyström and...
